KuiViti in Singapore
Ten and a half hours of flying, we landed safely in Changi Airport. I fought back a few tears of joy knowing how far I've come as an artist and I really didn't know that my love and passion for the creative arts would take me this far.
The Fiji Airways inaugural flight to Singapore included Zaira Begg, Ren Slatter, Jimmy Hendrix and I. We were commissioned by Fiji Airways to show the Fijian flavour through dance and Fiji Airways named us the Fijian Faces as we represented our multicultural nation.
Singapore is an amazing country with courteous and humble people and its only right that they've been dubbed the biggest airport along with the most exceptional service in the world.
The people were just superb. When we woke up the next day, I decided to have breakfast at a local eatery. I stared hard and long at everything especially the menu as I didn't know what to make of it. Thankfully a Lady saw me and she asked, 'Would you like me to order for you?' I nodded enthusiastically and she told me to just point at whatever I wanted and she'll do the rest. Soon after, I had two other ladies, joining her and coaching me on what and how every thing on that food stand was made. I was completely blown away by their kind gesture and it taught me a valuable lesson to always offence help, whether it is needed or not.
Singapore, I could say was organized. Everything was always on time and I felt Singapore was not made to suit the Singaporeans but rather to suit their visitors. The architecture of some of the buildings was insane and I wish I could've stayed longer just to visit these places.
I did however go to the Gardens by the Bay and it was breathtaking. They had flowers and plants from everywhere in the world and it was all in a air-conditioned building. I was mesmerized by the colors and since I print on fabric, I paid close attention to the details and color combination of the flowers.
There's something about performing outside the country. Im always emotional when I perform the traditional meke. Most people there that night have never seen a Fijian meke before, let alone a Fijian. And I was proud to have represented my vanua and everything we are all about.
